Five El Paso Sixes
The six (now five) F-106s that were purchased by a private individual and moved from Tyndall AFB FL, to El Paso TX, began restoration in the summer of 2000. The below photos were taken 08 Aug 00 by Ted & Vi Schmitz, who live nearby and made arrangements with the owner to obtain photos and information for this website. (Thanks Ted & Vi ) Also a big thanks to the owner for allowing the visit and all of us very curious F-106 fans wish you well.
The original plan in 2000 was to get a least three or four flying. Two B Models, 57-2509 & 57-2543, were moved into a hanger and the restoration was started on those two aircraft, with 57-2509 being the first one scheduled to fly in a couple years. In June 2001, I posted an "El Paso Forum" to follow the progress. Many excellent postings were made by viewers but in Nov 2006, I've regrettably removed the forum as it had deteriorated into something outside the scope of monitoring the restoration process. In my opinion, the flying portion of the restoration appears after over six years to have "died on the vine" for whatever reasons, but I'll continue to post any creditable information (such as photos) if it ever becomes available to me......Erv...03 Nov 06
